Ingredient Benefits

Citric Acid

Usually produced in powder form, citric acid is naturally found in citrus fruits. It easily mixes into liquids, making it a valuable acid. Lemons and limes have high concentrations of citric acid, accounting for their bitter taste. Oranges and tangerines are also high in citric acid, though lower than the more bitter citrus fruits. You can find citric acid present in certain berries too, particularly raspberries and blackberries.

Citric acid is used as a flavoring in many preparations of Vitamin C, and has a wide variety of other uses. In industry, citric acid can be used to make good “natural” cleaners, though some may still contain chemicals that are not exactly natural. It’s also now commonly used in preparing photographs.

Citric acid bonds easily to minerals and metals, called chelation. It can help to take certain minerals with citric acid, since the body will more easily digest chelated minerals. For example, some calcium supplements can come in the form of calcium citrate, and are better absorbed by the body.

Amino acids are VITAL to your health because they are the building block components that make up proteins - and protein is absolutely essential to your life!

Proteins are involved in the critical bio-chemical processes that sustain life and are a necessary component of every living cell in your body.

Protein substances makeup your muscles, ligaments, tendons, organs, glands, nails, hair, many body fluids, and are essential for the growth of your bone. They form the basis of your immune system as components of antibodies.

But the proteins making up your body do not come directly from protein foods you eat – your body breaks down any protein you consume into amino acids which it then uses to build the specific proteins needed.  So amino acids are critical nutrients!

Amino acids not only build proteins but some are critical to metabolic functions and others act as precursors to neurotransmitters – the chemicals that convey messages from one nerve to another.

Amino acids also act as cofactors to vitamins and minerals – not for absorption but to allow them to perform their duties correctly once they have been assimilated in you.

There are two types of amino acids – essential and non-essential.

Non–essential aminos are produced by your liver - these account for approx. 80% of all amino acids you need.  The essential ones cannot be manufactured by your body and need to be taken in through your diet

Essential amino acids are called: Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, tryptophan, and Valine.

Under specific conditions non-essential aminos can become essential! Huh!

That’s because your body manufactures some non-essentials from some essentials but if these essentials are not present in your diet in sufficient quantities then you can’t produce the non-essentials. Do you essentially understand?

An insufficient supply of even one essential amino can cause serious problems to your health. This would upset your body’s continuous synthesis of proteins – leaving it short of the proteins it needs.

This can result in negative nitrogen balance, an unhealthy condition in which the body excretes more nitrogen than it assimilates. Further, all of the essential amino acids must be present simultaneously in the diet in order for the other amino acids to be utilized – otherwise, the body remains in negative nitrogen balance.

A lack of vital proteins in the body can cause problems ranging from indigestion to depression to stunted growth.

A further benefit of some aminos is that they have antioxidant properties. If you’re up to date on your antioxidant/free radical knowledge then you’ll know how important antioxidants are to your body and health.

Glutathione and Cysteine/N-Acetyl L-Cysteine are powerful antioxidants while Taurine and Tyrosine offer minor antioxidant properties.

Green tea extract comes from the leaves of the tea plant, Cammelia sinsenis. It is made up of chemicals called catechins, of which ECGC is the most abundant.

ECGC is believed to be where the therapeutic value lies.

Green Tea Benefits

1) Lowering LDL cholesterol - Studies have shown that green tea lowers the amount of low density lipoproteins (LDLs) in the blood stream. LDLs are responsible for the buildup of plaque in the arteries that could lead to heart disease.

2) Promoting Weight Loss - Research has shown that green tea extract increases the body's thermogenesis, the generation of body heat, which in turn burns the calories and fat needed to lose weight.

3) Guarding Against Free Radicals - Studies point to green tea extract's ability to neutralize free radicals, chemicals that could damage cells. Green tea extracts could also limit cell replication of bad cells.

4) Promoting General Health - Green tea extract contains powerful antioxidants which can help boost the body's immune system and protect against illness and disease.

DMAE

DMAE, or dimethylaminoethanol, is a compound that helps improve concentration and memory, and has recently been in the spotlight for its ability to reduce wrinkles, age spots, and other signs of aging.

DMAE was originally studied for potential as a treatment for hyperactivity in students with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD). In the 1970s, studies demonstrated that children taking DMAE were less hyper and disruptive in class an increased ability to concentrate in school.

DMAE boosts brain function by causing the body to produce more acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that sends messages and commands concerning emotions and behavior throughout the brain. Acetylcholine is also thought to be involved in the process of storing memories. Many people swear by DMAE supplements, reporting that DMAE supplementation improved their memory (especially short-term memory), concentration, and mental clarity, and even helped them sleep more soundly.

DMAE is found in oily fish, but small amounts of it are also produced in the body. However, the average person gets just enough DMAE to maintain rather than improve brain function, and it is impossible to get enough DMAE from dietary sources to treat mental disorders.

Cnidium Monnier is a Chinese herb that has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an herbal anti-itch lotion and remedy for a variety of skin ailments and as a reproductive aid and aphrodisiac that increases sexual desire  in both men and women.  Today, we are told that it assists the body in producing nitric oxide, which relaxes smooth muscles and works to encourage healthy sexual function, and it has been used for male sexual dysfunction.  It also shows promise in the areas of osteoporosis, allergies and carcinoma research.

Phenylethylamine HCL is also known by the name PEA and pronounced Phenyl-Ethyl-Amine. PEA is considered a neuromodulator (and monoamine), and has been widely known as the "Love Drug" because of its effect in triggering the transmission of dopamine and norepinephrine and because it is available abundantly in chocolate. As an AMPA (alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid) neuro receptor stimulant, PEA is responsible in improving and increasing acetylcholine release through the glutamatergic system, thus acting as a mood enhancer. Unlike D-Phenylalanine which is a restricted drug, Phenylethylamine is perfectly legal for use as a nutritional supplement

Rhodiola Rosea is a remarkable herb that has a wide and varied history of uses. It is thought to strengthen the nervous system, fight depression, enhance immunity, elevate the capacity for exercise, enhance memory, aid weight reduction, increase sexual function and improve energy levels. It has long been known as a potent adaptogen. Adaptogens are natural plant substances that increase the body's non-specific resistance and normalise the functions of the body.

Maca: The Endocrine Adaptogen!

The endocrine system is a collection of glands that produce chemical "messengers" called hormones essential for normal bodily functions. A wide variety of physiological processes are carried out unconsciously by these "messengers". Once released they flow directly into the bloodstream and are transported to organs and tissues throughout the entire body.

Scientists and doctors are now finding maca to be one of the best natural ways to regulate and support endocrine health. This action regulates metabolism, energy levels, growth, sexual development and the sense of well being and attitude.

Thankfully, maca does not contain hormones itself. Instead it provides a unique set of nutrients that directly fuel the endocrine system and help the glands to produce vital hormones in precise dosages predetermined by one's own body.

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is an enzyme that repairs cells and reduces the damage done to them by superoxide, the most common free radical in the body. SOD is found in both the dermis and the epidermis, and is key to the production of healthy fibroblasts (skin-building cells).   Studies have shown that SOD acts as both an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory in the body, neutralizing the free radicals that can lead to wrinkles and precancerous cell changes. Researchers are currently studying the potential of superoxide dismutase as an anti-aging treatment, since it is now known that SOD levels drop while free radical levels increase as we Superoxide Dismutase helps the body use zinc, copper, and manganese. There are two types of SOD: copper/zinc (Cu/Zn) SOD and manganese (Mn) SOD. Each type of SOD plays a different role in keeping cells healthy. Cu/Zn SOD protects the cells’ cytoplasm, and Mn SOD protects their mitochondria from free radical damage.

Grape seed extract contains a vast array of health-giving ingredients, such as protein, lipids, carbohydrates and polyphenols (which come mainly in the form of flavonoids, also known as bioflavonoids).

The term flavonoid is used for a class of plant chemicals known for their activity as highly potent antioxidants, and therefore for their capability in protecting the body against oxidative and free radical damage. It’s not really surprising when you consider the scientific studies: they show that the antioxidant power of polyphenols is 20 times more powerful than vitamin E, and 50 times greater than vitamin C.

Because of its polyphenol content, purple grape juice provides a far greater antioxidant effect than orange juice.

What else can grape seed extract do?

Some people call these polyphenols “nature’s biological response modifiers” because of their ability to help the body fight viruses, allergens, and carcinogens.

That means that among their many talents, they exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anti-microbial activity.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) First of all, it's a fantastic antioxidant, meaning it prevents the free radical damage (much like the vitamins C, E and beta-carotene do) that compromises cellular integrity and accelerates the degradation of all the systems in the human body... which contributes to premature aging and degenerative disease.

Of course, intense exercise increases exposure to free radicals, so all athletes and body builders will find alpha lipoic acid to be beneficial for this reason alone.   Alpha lipoic acid has also been shown to effectively help shuttle glucose more efficiently to the muscle cells. Research has shown that the combination of simple sugars + creatine + alpha lipoic acid enhances creatine uptake beyond either creatine alone, or creatine + sugar.
